We believe that we have a deep understanding of what you are looking for in a stock horse. It comes down to three criteria: Type, Ability and Temperament.  

At Bydand we selectively breed for those criteria so we know that we can deliver on prodcuing quality horses.  

It all starts where we run our broodmares in a hilly but lush 400-acre paddock where our foals build strength and bone, forming a great foundation. The foals are handled at weanling time for two weeks before being spelled with a nanny for a number of months until they are mature enough to be professionally broken in in-house. 
 
There is always some stock work to do on the place so all of the Bydand horses have done many hours cutting out and pushing stock out from paddock to paddock.

Putting miles on a horse is important as it allows them to find their balance physically and set them up well mentally for later . It's a job that mentally and physically stimulates a young horse, without repetitive continuous circle/arena work.

That's why I believe that there is nothing better for a stock horse than learning on the go in the paddock going up and down hills after cattle with a stock whip in hand, opening/shutting gates with a work dog or two following along. 

We keep it simple, get the basics right and big things will follow.
